OUR STORY

UWC Atlantic College is the founding college of a global education movement, it is an international residential school based in South Wales, UK. Each year, 350 students aged 16 - 19 from over 90 different countries benefit from a world-class International Baccalaureate educational experience as well as participating in valuable extra-curricular activities and community service.

The Inshore Rescue Boat service teaches students how to manouver RIB rescue boats as well as participate in the making of the boats. All of our boats are designed and made by the students at the college. We are very fortunate to be situated on the Bristol Channel where we can use these boats frequently to train the students to a high standard of driving and life-saving skills. We hope that these skills can be put into practice and used to their full potential in this pioneering project.

With its historic commitment to community service, UWC Atlantic College is unique in that it was the founding place of the legacy that is Rear Admiral Desmond Hoare’s invention of the Rigid-Hulled Inflatable boat in the 1960's. It is still tangible at the sea front and a copy of the legendary cheque which sold the RIB’s patent to the RNLI for one pound is on display outside the boat-building workshop, inspiring the current students as they embark on their own assignment.

These are very exciting times for the Inshore Rescue Boat Service at the college as we lauch this pioneering project and we hope to gain as much support as possible to make change and save lives on an international scale.
